Teacher Gifts: Handmade Ornaments

Christmas ornaments for the teachers!

I rack my brain every year to come up with something that a teacher would like. This year, I decided on ornaments - I mean, I figure one can never have enough! I made these little babies out of scrap fabric and notions I had laying around (the perfect way to clean out the sewing room) and we plan on giving them to all the girls teachers this year. Which really adds up to alot of folks in the end; we ended up with 10 teachers after counting Ballet, Sunday School, MMO, and Elem. school teachers. Now, I hear my little one stirring from her nap, and I promised that she could help me wrap them......so if I don't see you before the holidays....

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Holiday Mantel Decor

What?! I can't believe it's been 2 months since I last posted. I had to take a little hiatus from blogging while I sewed my fingers to the bone, then hit a major slump while I tried to make it through the first trimester of pregnancy (Yay! We are having baby #3 in May and are thrilled!). But as some of you know, the first trimester it's pretty much all you can do just to get out of bed and get dressed, much less take care of 2 other little people. So now I'm feeling much better and I'm ready to start blogging again!

So here is our Mantel Decor this year........

(Looking at this photo, I'm wishing I had lit a fire in the fireplace, it would have looked prettier, but maybe y'all can use your imagination....)

I was trying to keep it simple this year as I'm pregs and feeling a bit lazy, so this was easy and made with stuff we already had around the house -that's a win win in my book.

Here is what I did:
I drew large letters on foam core and cut out the letters with my exacto knife (which totally took me back to my college days and late nights doing interior design projects with my roommate, Bonnie!). Then painted on Mod Podge with a foam brush and sprinkled lots of silver glitter on all of the letters - the girls helped me a little with this step until I made them leave the room because they were getting a little crazy with the glitter. After waiting for the glue/glitter to dry, I taped white Christmas lights around the edges of each letter. Pretty simple but very dramatic! I gathered magnolia leaves from the tree in our yard, then tacked ribbons to each end of the mantel and added a few snowflakes and icicles (we made the salt dough icicles last year, here is the post if you'd like to check it out)

It was hard to photograph this without having the room look really dark and the lights just one big bright spot......so I know these aren't the greatest photos but you get the idea!

Now I just have to make a stocking for my Sweet E..... she's 2 years old so it's kind of sad that I haven't already made her one.
