Elephants on Parade

This little top was inspired by the round-up of hand painted clothing & accessories that I posted yesterday. I  collected most of those images on Pinterest over the past year, and seeing those beautiful items just opened my brain up to the idea that I could make my own fabric patterns. I don't know why I hadn't really thought of it before, but there are many times that I go to the fabric store and can't find what I'm seeing in my head. Well, now I know that I can just create my own patterns and it feels rather freeing!
Here is my first attempt....the Elephants on Parade Top! I made my own elephant stencil and then used gold glitter fabric paint to stencil the elephants. In the future I'll probably use a stamp instead of a stencil, but hey, you live and learn.

{P.S. the Elephants on Parade Top is available on the Bug & Bell Etsy shop.}

Hand Painted Fabric

I'm really loving the trend of hand painted fabric these days......I rounded up a few of my favorite below.....

Hand Painted Clothing & Fabric

Sources: 1. JCrew, 2., 3., 4., 5. West Elm, 6. JCrew, 7.

The trend seems to cover several different painting styles - splatter paint, watercolor, stamping, and stenciling. And they are all equally beautiful!

Summer Garden

This year's garden is already huge ~ thanks to John's green thumb and all of the rain we've gotten! We have one large raised bed with lots of veggies and a few strawberry plants, and then several planters on the patio where the herbs and blackberries are growing.

This is the raised bed:
Tomatoes, Eggplant, Squash, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Peppers (several varieties),  & Strawberries

Blueberries and Morning Glories (2 of my faves)

Blackberries, Basil, Thyme, Chives, and Cilantro

And mine and Cella's contribution to the backyard garden ~ our cutting bed, filled to the brim with zinnias and dahlias! They are already as tall as Cella.

We've never done root vegetables, but in the future I'd like to try some potatoes (new or fingerling) and maybe some carrots.....
Do any of y'all have backyard gardens? If so what do you like to plant?

Thinking about a Shared Room for my Girls....

I'm thinking these days of moving my little one into her big sister's room when she moves out of her crib. I'm not sure how it will play out, but I do think it's character building and comforting to share a room with a sibling so I want to at least try it. The past few weeks I've been focused completely on Bug & Bell, with ideas swimming in the background about this shared bedroom. The room that they would be in is currently gray, I can't decide if I want to keep it that color or paint......I really don't want to repaint....but Cella is adamant about having a pink room.

Here are two Options that I've been playing around with:

cella and edie 2

In this option we would use Cella's current bed (it looks similar to the one above) and try to find a similar one for Edie. The room will be tight so I was thinking of using chairs as nightstands, basically just a place to stack books for bedtime reading. Then we would keep Cella's bedding, which is the pink diamond quilt from Serena & Lily and maybe just add some other pillows to jazz it up. The curtains would be made out of a white and coral pattern fabric. So the overall color scheme for this room would be Mint Green, Pink, Gray, and Coral. I'd also like to do a large collage of over sized black and white photos of the girls over their dresser, for some added drama.

cella and edie

For option 2, we would paint the walls pink and possibly wallpaper the wall that the beds are on with the paper shown above. (This idea makes me tired just thinking about all the work, although it would be very cute.) We would still use the same bedding as above, but use yellow and coral accents instead of gray. I found the letter signs on Etsy and I think it would be so cute to have C & E above their beds (I will probably do this in both options). While I love this Aqua, Pink, Coral, and Yellow color scheme, I'm kind of leaning toward #1 because I feel like this might be too much pink in the long run...........

What do you guys think? Which option do you like best?
I'd love to hear your ideas!

A few fun gifts to celebrate fathers.

Father's day is coming up and while I was perusing Etsy today, I saw a few cool gift and card ideas that I'd like to share with you. I've seen Father's Day gift guides on other blogs over the years, and while they do have cool ideas, I always feel like they appeal more to me than to my husband. I mean for instance, my husband is not going to appreciate blue striped lavender sachets....he would probably ask me what the hell is a sachet, if I presented one to him on Father's Day.
These are things that I think would be more up his alley (except the guitar picks, he doesn't play the guitar, but they would be pretty cool for someone who did!).

The best (non cheesy) Father's Day shirt I've ever come across. Better than your standard Father's Day mug, if you ask me.

Any Dad who likes to jam would be stoked to get this little beauty.

For the musically inclined father.

A little bit of card art for a man who likes the outdoors.

How funny is this card....and so true too! A good Father is the Sh*t!

Nothing on this list is extravagant, just a few fun ways to tell the Daddy in your life that you appreciate him!

The Summer of the Sunsuit

Wow! I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted anything on the blog. So sorry, but I've pretty much been chained to my sewing machine and haven't had much time for anything else, except being a mom of course. (I'm not complaining, I'm very thankful to be doing what I love!)

Since we last talked I've made a few more items for my Bug & Bell clothing line and have been working on custom orders.

The latest items are sunsuits! Yes, I'm a little obsessed, but I'm single handedly trying to bring back the 50's style sunsuit this summer!

Here are a few.....

{The City Girl Sunsuit ~ modeled by the sweetest and juiciest little tater ever.)

{The Bubblegum Sunsuit}

{The Garden Party Sunsuit ~ Front and Back}

Perfect for the up and coming musician, as you can see!

and last but not least...
{The Little Boy Blue Sunsuit ~ we can't forget the boys!}

My facebook page is getting more action than my blog lately, so if you'd like more information on how you can purchase your own handmade sunsuit or just want to see what I'm up to, then come on over to

(And I promise I'll get back to posting more about interior design, I've been brainstorming a change for my girl's bedroom so I'll be posting ideas for that soon.)
