A few new chairs and some random thoughts.

It's weird how I feel such a lack of motivation in January.....it happens every year. December is jam packed with making presents, putting up decorations, and doing all the fun holiday stuff that by the time January rolls around, I'm spent. And even though I have so many projects floating around in my noggin, I can't seem to get motivated. Which is why I haven't posted much this month. However, I think this week is the turning point. I just made a batch of  In Bloom headbands and barrettes, dropped them off at a store here in Jackson (Nursery Rymes in Highland Village, if you're local and curious) and I'm hoping to update my etsy shop soon.
Here's a peek.

Also, I've been playing outside with the girls and practicing my photography skills with the new camera lens I got for Christmas. Check out my cool dude!

And the I other day while treasure hunting with my husband, sister, and baby girl, we found chairs that I've been looking for, forever. Yay! Check'em out -  I'm so excited! They were marked WAY down so we couldn't pass them up.

Two Bentwood chairs (circa 1900 from Finland)
only $19 bucks each. I love the mint green.
4 Bentwood chairs (with arms!)
$39 bucks each.

One of the green chairs will go to my sewing room and one to our desk in the living room. Although I can visualize them in many different situations - as nightstands in the girls' rooms, or as extra chairs in the dining room on either side of the buffet. The 4 armchairs will end up in the dining room after getting a coat of white spray paint.

Sorry for the rambling post, I just haven't talked to y'all in so long and I wanted to let you know that pretty soon I'll be back to my regular old self!

Putting a little sass in my step.

Last night we went to the Lt. Governor's inauguration ball which called for me to actually get dressed and wear make-up. I don't get out on the town very often these days (although I do love a party or fun occasion!), and I didn't want to drop alot of cash on an outfit that would only be worn for one night. So I wore my bridesmaids dress from my sister's wedding and thought I'd jazz up some black heels by making a pair of shoe clips! I've seen some stores on etsy that sell them for about $30 bucks a pair, so I decided to bust out the hot glue gun and give it a try myself.  For the materials ~ I had some leftover Christmas glitter ribbon and feathers from this dove headband (made for the Christmas pageant).

So fun and festive!!

Red Winter Capelets.

When I saw the red riding hood pattern in the Oliver and S sewing book, I almost died from the cuteness. I mean every little girl needs a red capelet, right? I chose a red fleece for the outside and a quilting weight cotton fabric for the inside of each capelet - strawberries for Edie and birds for Cella. The pattern was surprisingly easy and didn't take me that long. I sewed a button on the inside and outside of each capelet so they are reversible too. Cella loves hers and wears it all the time, she feels like a princess in it. Edie, on the other hand, has melted into a puddle both times we've tried to put it on her, she is not too keen on the hood. It is so funny though! She cooperated with the photo shoot today as long as the hood was not on and she could run around an play with her sister.

These two are definitely going to be partners in crime!

Clutch Handbags

It's been a while since I posted, but I was having so much fun over the holidays visiting with family that I just didn't have time to blog! (And also I had to wait until after Christmas for this post so as not to spoil the surprise!)

This year for Christmas I made clutches for all the ladies in my family (along with Cella's teachers). I forgot to take photos of some before I wrapped them, but overall I made 8, and tried to pair each person with a fabric that fit their style. These little pouches are perfect for a night out on the town or to carry inside a large purse as a make-up bag. I love making gifts and wish I could have made something for all the guys too......although I have a harder time thinking of ideas for the guys. And I always overestimate how many projects I can get done before Christmas, the month of December goes by entirely too fast for me. Next year I might have to start on presents in August!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! I'm so excited about this year, I have so much I want to do and accomplish (I might do a separate post about that later). And I'm really excited about another year with my family and my growing girls. Also both of my sisters are pregnant so we will be gaining 2 precious new babies this year ~ one girl, one boy! I can't wait to meet these new little people and squeeze on some chunker baby legs!
