The Friendly Beasts

Yesterday we had the Christmas Pageant at our church, and one of the songs the children sang was The Friendly Beasts. It's a beautiful Christmas song, so simple and sweet, especially when sung by makes me tear up every time I hear it. I made 4 headbands for the soloists to wear during the song, one for each of the animals ~ a donkey, cow, sheep, and dove.

 Jesus, our brother, kind and good,
Was humbly born in a stable rude;
And the friendly beasts around Him stood.
Jesus, our brother, kind and good.
"I," said the Donkey, shaggy and brown,
"I carried His mother up hill and down;
I carried His mother to Bethlehem town."
"I," said the Donkey, shaggy and brown.

"I," said the Cow, all white and red,
"I gave Him my manger for His bed;
I gave Him my hay to pillow His head."
"I," said the Cow, all white and red.
 "I," said the Sheep, with the curly horn,
"I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm;
He wore my coat on Christmas morn."
"I," said the Sheep, with the curly horn.
 "I," said the Dove, from the rafters high,
"I cooed Him to sleep that He should not cry;
We cooed Him to sleep, my mate and I."
"I," said the Dove, from the rafters high.

Thus every beast by some glad spell,
In the stable dark was glad to tell
Of the gift he gave Emmanuel,
The gift he gave Emmanuel.

* If you don't know the song, check out this version by Sufjan Stevens.*

And now, I think the girls and I will take a little trip to the park on this lovely day! (And hopefully finish up some snow globes later on ...I'll post when they are done!)

Fabric Scrap Bow {a.k.a. easiest bow ever}

Hi Guys! I just wanted to share this little idea that came to me this weekend while wrapping presents with my side-kick. These days I'm not able to spend tons of time making sure every present looks perfect like I did in the days before children. Because we all know those little hands will get into the presents long before Christmas day and by the time it finally rolls around most presents will be delivered to family with rips and tears, bad tape jobs, and looking just plain pitiful. So on that note, I came up with the easiest bow ever. It does require you have  fabric scraps lying around the house........but if you don't have those you could maybe use scraps of wrapping paper?

Anyways here is the idea:
And here's how to make it:
1. stack your fabric scraps

2. lay a thin piece of fabric over your stack

3. tie a knot on back side of stack

4. turn it over and fluff!

Now just tape it onto your present and your done! So easy!

P.S. Here's a photo of my side-kick's expert wrapping skills....Love it!

Decking the Halls.

We put our Christmas tree and decorations  up this weekend! Cella is at the age that she loves helping and participating in the decorating, so I let her do alot and try not to be a control freak. I've come to realize that perfection is not always about having something look perfect! We enjoy making ornaments together and I try to let the girls help as much as possible. I know one day in the future we'll find ourselves with an empty house and a perfectly decorated Christmas tree and we'll probably be nostalgic for the days that the house was filled with the laughter and craziness of children. (So I'm not going to complain about the girls taking all the ornaments off of the bottom of the tree every five seconds and then putting them back on, and having pine needles everywhere all the time. *wink wink.)

icicles for mama
gingerbread men, trees, bells, and candy canes for cella

so proud of all her hard work!

icicles, snowflakes, and min-disco balls make a festive arrangement for the foyer!

fun, festive, and cheap craft using paper strips and a stapler! {found this idea on designsponge many years ago}

pinecones, left-over tree branches and candles make a cozy mantel decoration for the holidays. sprinkle some fake snow on the top for good measure!

I'm working on a few other projects too, some I won't post until after Christmas because they are gifts and I don't want to spoil the surprise!

So ciao for now ~ I've got to get crackin!
