Art to Brighten Your Day!

I can't wait for the days when instead of asking for clinical strength deodorant, teeth whitenings strips, a lawnmower and a vacuum cleaner for Christmas, I can ask Santa Claus for an original piece of art!! I think art adds something to a house that massed produced prints just cannot achieve. An orginal painting or drawing (or art in any other medium) can make a space feel so alive and add movement to a room.

It would be fun to start a family tradition where we buy one piece of art a year. And it wouldn't have to be crazy expensive, just something that we want to live with everyday.

If I were going to buy something right now, it might be one of these gorgeous paintings by Michelle Armas.

I love love love color, and these paintings are just so vibrant. They would make a cheerful addition to any house! The middle one would look awesome in my new black dining room, but unfortunately they are all (way) out of my price range.

Maybe one day I'll pick up my paint brush and make my own abstract for the dining room.......

The best bibs / burp cloths ever!

When I was pregs with my last baby, my friend gave me these Aden + Anais bibs and blankets. And they are seriously THE BEST. I love them. They can be used as burp cloths when the baby is small and bibs when the baby starts eating solid food. The best thing about them is they wrap around your baby so that when they turn their head (which they always do) they don't get food on their shoulders. So smart! The blankets are great too, because they are soft and lightweight which is great for a baby born in the summer in the deep south.

Okay so enough with the product review, I'm really just writing all this to tell you that I love this bib style so much that I copied the idea. One of my dear friends just had twins so I made those sweet babies a little happy!!

An indoor picnic

THE HEAT! Oh my gosh, the heat is killing me!!

I don't know about you, but I find that when it is really hot outside and I'm sweating constantly, my patience runs really thin with my 3 year old. It has been so hot that we can't go outside as much as we like to because I don't need my 1 year old to have a heat stroke. Unless we are at the swimming pool, we are pretty much cooped up inside all day everyday. And seriously, we need a break from each other. She will be starting school in a few weeks, and I know I'll probably be wishing for the days when she stayed home, but I think it's going to be so good for her. She asks me every morning "What we gonna do today?" and then I have to come up with something not boring to do. And I'm running out of ideas and stamina! But Friday night I thought we could have an indoor picnic dinner which she thought was the greatest idea ever.

And to make it even better we had breakfast food. What is better than breakfast for dinner!?

I love my family, I really do. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about the words I wrote above. This little girl is my heart. At night when I'm exhausted and so ready for her to go to bed, John or I will do the whole bedtime routine and finally tuck her in. Then 15 minutes later she will call for me on the stairs - "Mom, can you draw sumpin on my magna-doooodle?" or "Mom, can you dance with me?" and it really does melt my heart. Having a break from that voice and then hearing that sweet baby voice 5 minutes later is a nice reminder that she is still just a baby.

So if any of you are feeling the same way and would like to share some good fun activity ideas for these hot summer days I would love to hear them!

Weenie Dog Tees for the Birthday Boys!

Two of my favorite little boys had birthdays this summer, one turned 3 and the other turned 1. I tried my hand at appliqueing t-shirts and came up with this weenie dog idea.

I can't wait to see both of them wearing their shirts, and squeeze on them a little bit!
