Mountain House Master Bedroom

We've ordered almost all of the furniture for the mountain house, with the exception of just a few pieces in the master bedroom. The chair and the dresser. We are currently waiting to choose a dresser, because my mother-in-law found the most amazing artist who makes gorgeous custom case-goods and eventually we would like to have him make one for the bedroom. His name is Fitzhugh Karol, and the sideboard shown below is one of his designs. Aren't they amazing?! As for the chair, we are trying to decide between a rust zig-zag fabric or a blue zig-zag. I've made 2 design boards - one with the rust and one with the blue - which do you prefer?

Tutorial : How to make a garland out of coffee filters!

Hey Friends! Some of you have asked me how to make the rainbow garlands that we used as decorations for Edie's birthday party.  Well, they could not be easier to make, so I thought I would show you.
This is a great project to do with your kids, as it is so easy that a 3 year old can do it! And they will think it is fun. And there is nothing like child labor! (Just kidding, don't be worried.)

You will need the following supplies:
  • coffee filters
  • water color paints and paint brushes
  • embroidery thread
  • a large needle
  •  spray bottle of water

FIRST: Stack 2 or 3 coffee filters on top of one another. (You can do them one by one, but this is a trick I figured out after making a few.)

SECOND: Mist them with a little water.

THIRD: Go to town with your paint! You can brush back and forth or just make dots here and there. Use any colors you like, we did all the colors, but I think using just one color family could look beautiful too.

FOURTH: Mist again with your water bottle. (Or you don't have to, it's up to you how much you want your colors to bleed into each other.)

FIFTH: Peel them apart and lay them out to dry. It won't take long.

LAST:When they are dry, take one coffee filter, fold it in half and kind of bunch it in the center (I don't know if this makes sense, but check out the photo below to get a better idea). Then push your needle and thread through the center piece that you folded up. Loop it through 1 or 2 times then go about 4 inches down the thread and add another coffee filter. Keep doing this until you've strung all of your coffee filters.

Now, hang them up and ...TA-DA!
You have beautiful and festive birthday decorations that are much prettier than the ones you can buy in the store and they cost much less!
After the party, don't throw them away, just store them in a Ziploc and break them out for the next big celebration!

In Bloom Giveaway: And the winner is..........

Number 11!
(All about the Lindsays - PJ)

Yay! Congrats and thanks to everybody who participated! And just so you know it was fair, the little stinker above picked the number and she can't read yet!

If you are the lucky winner , please email me at so we can discuss your prize.

In Bloom Bracelets - Cuteness strikes again!

These are the latest In Bloom creation, something that I haven't been able to get out of my head for a while........bracelets! Oh, I am really in love with them, they are so sweet and so age appropriate for little girls that want to wear jewelry and be like mama!

I'm sure you know friendship bracelets are back and all the rage right now. I've seen them all over the place in every kind of variation, some plain, some all dressed up and bedazzled (and with a big price tag to match!) Well this is my take on it, handmade, of course and comfy to wear since they are made of fabric and felt.

My little ham doing some modeling for me!

They look great worn alone and even better stacked with others.
{I say they are for little girls, but I love them so much I might make some for myself!}

I plan on making more and putting a few in my Etsy shop - I 'll update as soon as I get the shop stocked!

P.S. I will be announcing the winner of this contest tonight so stay tuned..........

Baby E's first birthday!

I'm ONE!

We celebrated Edie's 1st birthday with friends and family on Sunday and had lots of fun! Edie loved playing with all her friends in the backyard and of course eating her cake. I made a little smash cake just for her, and the rest of us ate ice cream cake from Dairy Queen (yum!).

I recruited Cella to help me make the rainbow garlands. She really enjoyed it, and it was fun to work on a project together!

I tried not to get too crazy with the decorations, but I did have to steal an idea from my gal Martha and make a number one out of pictures of my little one from the past year.

Mama's sweet girl!!
