Inspiration Board: i'm dreaming of a black dining room

Black rooms have been my obsession for quite some time, and since my dining room desperately needs a makeover I'm thinking that's where I need to try it out. Dark walls with a mix of rustic and glitzy elements would be so beautiful and cozy. This photo has been stuck in my head for years, ever since it was published in the oldie but goodie Domino Magazine.

Here is my inspiration board, using the photo above as a starting point. These items are really just dream items, I'll most likely be scouring the consignment/antique stores and making most things myself!

I'm really loving the dark blue rug with the black walls. That color combo is not the first that would come to mind, but it looks really cool. Add some succulents (my fave) and I think the room would be the perfect!

P.S. So now that I've got my board done, I'm realizing there are not any "glitzy" elements to the room! Maybe I'll have to do another option with glitz - then I can choose between the two.

I spy a cool print

Since my last post was about my daughter's room, I'm going to throw this in here. This print by Sarah Winter was featured on Designsponge the other day, and it would be perfect for my girl's room. It is pretty awesome. It would also be cool in the living room........maybe I will get it for her and then steal it.

P.S. I did order a chair for her room not too long ago, and when it came in it would not fit through her bedroom door! OOPS! I felt like a big idiot. Now it is in our living room. So here is a tip: If you really want something, buy it for your child and then say it won't fit in the door of her room and voila you got yourself a new whatever it was that you wanted!

P.P.S I would like to state for the record that I was pregnant when I ordered the chair, so I'm blaming it on that.

*You can find this print and others at Sarah Winter's etsy store.

Before and After: a green nightstand

We inherited a lot of furniture from my generous in-laws and thankfully they are not the kind of folks who get mad if you change or paint their old furniture. I thought this small dresser would be cute in our daughter's room. We initially used it as her changing table and now we use it as her nightstand. It was actually pretty cute to begin with, but it had stains on the top and needed a little upgrade!

After painting it kelly green and replacing the old knobs with white flower knobs from Anthropologie, it looks like a new nightstand. I think it turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself! The artwork is needlework that my mom did for me when I was a baby, I found them in her old sewing basket and thought they would be perfect for Cella's room.

Digging old treasures out of the attic is one of my favorite things to do and it's good for the environment!

A new year and a new blog

The girl in the gray house, that's me.

I used to be an interior designer, then I had babies. Now I get to stay at home and watch my girls grow.

I love art, design, sewing, fashion, music and all things beautiful. I love to do projects with my family and for my family and hope to document all of my creative adventures in this blog.

To start the new year off, I re-arranged my mantle with fun new paintings I got for Christmas. I love the yellow, it is so cheerful and makes me happy!
